In the beginning, the "rules" of United Methodism were set down by John Wesley. Today most Methodism denominations in the world are vastly more democratic.

Faith can be strengthened or weakened in many ways. Being a faithful Christian does not have to mean believing every word of the Bible is true or that challenging long-held beliefs is wrong.

anybody sizing up The United Methodist Church would instantly recognize its penchant for careful organization. It is one of the banes and blessings of our existence. But frankly that organizational tidiness can suffocate as well as liberate, and can be an idol if valued for its own sake.

Is it too much to expect the "world" beyond the church to be community? As long as the world is made up of sinners, there will be sinful divisions among us.

A typical United Methodist congregation is pretty diverse in political viewpoint, attitude toward public issues, and theological orientation. However, there was a time when a church was virtually a segregated institution.

God's grace is always needed no matter the time, nor the situation. United Methodism serves these needs in many different ways
