Postmodern Literature

"What is Postmodernity Anyway?" Drucilla Cornell, The Philosophy of the Limit

"A fundamental misunderstanding lies within your language: what it carries of persuasive power does not belong to speech but to what it covers in silence." Luce Irigaray, Elemental Passions.

"[Hypertext is] a kind of nomadic voyaging in thought, language, reading, writing." Carolyn Guertin, Defib Interview.

As you can see by the three quotes above I am interested in the intersections between postmodern critical thinking, feminist theories, and emerging hypertext philosophies. As a doctoral student I'll be writing articles concerning how these three ideas merge, if, in fact, they do. I'll draw on narrative theory, especially Susan Lanser and Virginia Woolf; feminist philosophy, like that of Rosi Braidotti, Luce Irigaray, and Julia Kristeva; and hypertext thinking, such as George Landow's early observations, Judy Malloy's publishing of the world's first hyperfiction, Marie-Laure Ryan's critique of digital narrative, and many hyperfiction writers such as Carolyn Guertin, Carolyn Guyer, Marjorie Coverley Luesebrink, Deena Larsen, and Caitlyn Fisher. I hope you'll get as much pleasure in reading these timely articles as I'll have in writing them.
