Investing/Personal Finance

Kirk Lindstrom

This topic advocates a "Core and Explore" approach to investing, in which you place 80% to 99% of your money into a core portfolio of well diversified, buy-and-hold, no load mutual funds and or blue chip stocks then explore with the remainder as you learn. "Diversified" means you should have bonds as well as equities according to your risk profile.
Try stock picking and market timing to see if you can beat the averages. If you do, then that portion of your portfolio grows quickly; if you don't, then the smaller portion allocated to personal active management doesn't significantly impact your overall goal.
