Victorian Theatre
During the Victorian era, many performers became internationally famous as they established their own acting companies, and responded to performance requests in newly-established theatres. Playwrights and performers presented mostly melodrama and romanticism early in the era, but by the 1860s, naturalistic acting styles and comedies with domestic themes gained popularity.
