Suriname

Suriname, the former Dutch colony on the northeastern shoulder of South America is much of an unknown quantity but its history and politics make for interesting reading. This truly is a cultural melting pot of backgrounds with ethnic groups converging all at once and in turn creating racial tensions and divisions that only ever meet or bridged on an economic and commercial level. With vast quantities of natural resources, Suriname has its share of wealth but infrastructure faults have left the population wanting.
