Secret Wonderings after Surgery
Are you or someone close to you going to have surgery in the next few months? Have you been told what might be expected both before and AFTER the operation? Being told what will happen before and during the surgery is expected and usually does occur. However, what might happen after you come out of recovery could be a huge shock to you and especially to your family. I had a severe reaction to medications and the anesthetic used in my last back surgery and was hallucinatory for 10 days. I was lost in a world that seemed as real as this one, and my family was terrified that I would never return. I'm writing about this experience in this, and several subsequent articles, in order to inform you and others to insist on knowing BEFOREHAND what possibilities, no matter how remote, you could encounter after the operating room. I'm sure my family and myself, could have reacted much differently and with less terror if we had been told of this remote possibility. I hope you'll read these articles and be better prepared to deal with reality and the world of hallucinations, if you are ever called to visit there.
