On 18 March 1960 an important event occurred that changed the course of inter-racial relations in South Africa. That day on Bree Street in Johannesburg the PAC leader announced a non-violent campaign against the pass laws. Three days later that campaign turned violent as blood was shed at a march in the Sharpeville township.
