My First Paranormal Investigation and Ghost Tours
The year was 1965. The place was Charles Schwab’s barn. The two intrepid investigators were Dean and me, both sophomores at Moravian College. Dean is her middle name. We were students at Liberty High School in the town of Bethlehem, PA, AKA the Christmas City. She was voted the most likely to succeed, and she has. Dean discovered that Schwab’s barn was haunted. Even then, I was very well learned in parapsychology. Now, I would do my first investigation. The group that we hung with was into ghosts, but out of the group, Dean and I were the only ones brave enough to investigate. Years later, in 1998, I created “Haunted Bethlehem,” walking ghost tours of the historic area and Schwab’s haunted barn played a role. You will read about an insider’s look at ghost tours and the humor involved.

Famous Psychoanalysts Involved with the Paranormal
Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Sandor Ferenczi and Nandor Fodor all had something in common. They were psychoanalysts and also interested in parapsychology. Freud was the first pioneer in and founder of psychoanalysis. Jung was to be his heir and crown prince. There was a rift between them that led to a bitter estrangement. All I learned about this rift when I studied for my undergraduate degree was that there was a major difference in theories. Some years later, I learned the truth. Ferenczi was also a disciple of Freud’s. Fodor was the first psychoanalyst to seriously study the relationship between psychology and the paranormal. This article will inform you of things you will not learn in traditional undergraduate psychology classes.

Chillingham Castle is Not All Chill
I held my hand in front of my face in the darkness and marveled that I could not see one detail, not so much as any movement or shadow. My trusty flashlight stood at the ready on the table by the bed in case I had to get up. There I lay in pitch blackness that would normally not be anything out of the ordinary, but I happened to be in a bed in the Lookout apartment at the very top of the Northwest tower of Chillingham Castle.

Curse of the Evil Witch of Yazoo City
In 1904, there was a fire that devastated Yazoo City, Mississippi. It is said that a hideous old woman who died in 1884 came back from the grave and caused the blaze. Her grave, surrounded by chain links, is located in Glenwood Cemetery. The city and its river were named after the Yazoo Indians, a tribe local to the region. There are those that aver that Yazoo means “death” in the long forgotten language. Could it be that Yazoo is Death City and its river is Death River, and could the witch have played a role in the fire?

The Voodoo Murder of Pennsylvania I: Background
This is what the press called the murder of Nelson Rehmeyer, the Witch of Rehmeyer’s Hollow. The killer’s were John Blymire, 18-year-old Wilbert Hess and 14-year-old John Curry who believed the witch had hexed them. PowWow is the magickal art of the Pennsylvania Dutch used for healing, protection, love and other positive purposes. According to belief, when one is hexed she or he has to find out who cast the hex in order to remove it. Rehmeyer and Blymire were both PowWow doctors, as the magickal practitioners of this art were called. Both were known as healers, although Rehmeyer’s talents were far greater than the younger Blymire’s. The Voodoo Murder of Pennsylvania II, the Crime and Trial
The background as to why Nelson D. Rehmeyer, the Witch of Rehmeyer’s Hollow, was murdered has been set in the first part of the Voodoo Murder of Pennsylvania. While the Pennsylvania Dutch and German populace of the Hexbelt of the commonwealth believed in spells, mainstream society thought this was silly superstition. There had witchcraft trials in Pennsylvania and William Penn sat on the grand jury of one of them, but, this was the 1920s. Judges and other elected officials believed that to give credence to the beliefs of the “superstitious” Dutch would make Pennsylvania the laughingstock of the USA. The court wanted to totally suppress any testimony about witchcraft. The press wrote about the sensational trial. This attracted the attention of lawyer Clarence Darrow of Scopes Monkey Trial Fame.

The Greeks called them lamiae and the Romans, striges, lamiae or mormos. They believed they were the undead who preyed upon the living. At one time, it was believed that lycanthropy and vampirism were closely intertwined. In Eastern Europe, the belief was that a werewolf turned into a vampyre when it died.
