How Words Work:4
The connotations a word acquires are perhaps the most changeable aspects of meaning. The denotative meanings of words change too: it is now almost impossible to use gay, for example in its earlier meaning. But connotation is that aspect of meaning which carries judgement, feeling or opinion, and as public attitudes changes or are moulded by commercial, political or other influences, so words acquire new connotations implying certain attitudes or emotions on the part of the user.

Language "Deviances/Delays" vs Language "Differences"
Not all language and speech "errors" are "errors". Sometimes people, because of their social/cultural, dialectal or ethnic background, may seem to have big problems speaking. This is not always the case. Data has been collected for many different ethnicities and some of these "problems" are really normal to them as they learn to use the English language more proficiently. Hence, they are labeled differences and not delays.
