Canada wins Gold Cup!
Some people say we're losing our hockey, personally I don't agree, but if it's the case we can always turn to soccer. Well, as you've probably heard, Canada has just won the Gold Cup. Some say it was just lucky, I say they played well and deserved the Cup, but it did start with luck. They had to win a coin toss to get into the playoffs.

Kafelnikov takes Gold
Russia's Yevgeny Kafelnikov has added to his big match reputation by taking out the gold medal in the men's singles at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. He survived a torrid match with up and coming German Tommy Haas, eventually winning 7-6, 3-6, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Kafelnikov has added the presitigous Olympics title to his 1999 Australian Open and 1996 French Open crowns. As a former number 1 player, he now looks to be in ominous form for the rest of the year and beyond.

Skagway: Cruising The Inside Passage Pt 3
Skagway, gateway to the Yukon is our port of call. The quiet rustic town, belies it's wild west history, where con men, gamblers and prostitutes plied their trade with impunity. Then there is the tale of Soapy Smith, the most notorious " bad guy " of the era. The White Pass and Yukon Route railway, one of the steepest and most scenic routes is here. Then a trip to White Pass Summit, where the Chilkoot Trail, The Gold Rush Trail of '98 begins and an interesting stop at the Miners' Gold Rush Graveyard. There is a Dance hall with Gold Rush Follies. And old fashioned saloon.

Juneau: Cruising the inside passage Pt 2
Our first port of call on the Alaska cruise is Juneau, capital of Alaska, geographically the largest city in the US and the first town to be founded due to the gold rush. Historical yet cosmopolitan, Juneau has great shopping and quality restaurants. After riding through town, we're off to view our first glacier, the awesome Mendenhall, one of the few you can drive to. We then experience an unforgetable wildlife cruise, encountering diving Humpback whales, close up, Stellar Sea Lions basking on a bellbuoy, harbour seals poping up like corks from the sea. Lots of great pictures and Alaska links. Please join me in this Alaska experience.

Vines - Part 4
I grow several vines on purpose and a few unwelcome ones bestowed by Mother Nature. One species starts out very shrub-like, another twines, some are annuals. Some thrive and bloom in shade and some will grow but not flower. There are also vines in my past and some that I hope will be in my future. My garden would be incomplete without the soft high notes of vines.

Vines Part 6 - More Ivy Plus
Ivy is an remarkably variable plant. Leaf size, shape and coloration differ tremendously among cultivars, most of which have been found as mutations rather than having been bred on purpose. Not only do cultivars vary, individual plants, depending on their level of maturity, can have leaves that bear almost no resemblance to others growing a few inches away. There are also other vines I grow or want to grow plus a lot of photos and images in this article, so please be patient while it loads.
