A VOLCANIC ERUPTION IN ARKANSAS
A volcano in Arkansas? You have got to be kidding! ...the earth had burst or broken up, throwing out huge masses of rock and earth. Leaves on trees appeared to have withered and the heat from the ground gradually destroyed the roots of the trees.

When Spring Never Came
It was probably three natural events which conspired to make the year 1816 one of the strangest ones, weatherwise, in recorded history. One was the reduced solar activity of the Dalton Minimum. Another could have been the 179-year solar barycenter shift. But the most important of all was the eruption of Mount Tambora in the Java sea the year before...

Something Science Fictiony about Passionflower
I don’t know if I can describe the blossom of a Passionflower (<I>Passiflora incarnata</I>). I can tell you the plant has lot going for it. It has an edible fruit, and has been a favored herbal tea. It has a long history in herbal medicine. It is a host plant for the larvae of a half-dozen so butterflies. And those indescribable flowers make it a gardener’s favorite when there’s a place for a climbing or trailing vine.

Life and Death in Pompeii: Millenium series Pt 18
Visit with me the ruins of Pompeii. Read, 1500 years after the fact, the fascinating, powerful amd moving letters written by a 17 year old scholar, named Pliny the Younger. His letters include an account of the last hours and death of his uncle, how he lived and what kind of man he was. He also writes a letter which is an eyewitness account of the 79 AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The eruption of ash and cinder buried and preserved the ancient city by forming a hemetic seal around it. After being covered for 1500 years, Pompeii and it's inhabitants can now share their story of how they lived and died for this eruption caught forever, that moment in time. There are lots of pictures and links. Please join me. Mary Ellen
