Frustrated NASCAR Stars2 As the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup season has hit full swing, there are several proverbial names in NASCAR who have yet to accelerate. Kahne Is Able I must come clean on something; I was not sold on Kasey Kahne before the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup season began. I felt as if he was another young hard charger that was put in superlative equipment. The #9 Evernham Motorsports Dodge was an already established front-runner with long-time veteran Bill Elliott behind the wheel. If you recall, no team was better than Elliott and the #9 team throughout the final ten or twelve races of 2003. kasey kahne • jeremy mayfield • evernham • nextel cup • nextel cup standings
Year Of The Veterans? In a world in which drivers in their twenties and early thirties dominate the NASCAR scene, forty-seven year-old Mark Martin has been the outsider over the last couple of years. Martin is the lone driver in his fabulous forties to compete in NASCAR’s playoff-style ‘Chase For The Championship’ in both 2004 and 2005. Rusty Wallace qualified in 2005, but never won a race. Since 2004, forty-something drivers have combined for a total of four wins, with Martin claiming half of them. Only Dale Jarrett and Rusty Wallace have been able to win at least one race in that time span. mark martin • jeff burton • bobby labonte • dale jarrett • ken schrader
