Family recipes can bring back memories, especially over the holidays.
I have been a working journalist and editor for nearly thirty years, with published pieces in many local and regional magazines and newspapers – as well as a few national publications. Currently, I am the managing editor of the Hudson Valley Business Journal, a weekly business trade paper that covers New York State’s Hudson Valley, from Westchester to Albany. The publication I run, edit, and occasionally manage to write for, has about 50,000 readers – practically all of them, business owners, healthcare or higher education administrators, public policy officials or top executives in regionally-based corporations. I also spearheaded a redesign of our website (www.hvbizjournal,com) recently that made the online product more interactive and resource-based. In the past year, I have also become a business newscaster for the New York-based PAMAL radio chain, (Hudson Valley Radio Network) and have launched "Business Journal Radio," a weekly 60 minute talk show focused on business and consumer issues that is broadcast on that network and streamed a podcasts on the Hudson Valley Business Journal's new website. Currently, I am also in the process of developing another show for that chain. Prior to coming to the Business Journal, I edited (and wrote for) another regional publication; edited and published a regional magazine; worked as a reporter for a daily newspaper; worked in the area of sustainable development, as the director of a local community development corporation; and freelanced extensively. While I am, of course, interested in small business and sustainable development issues, I am equally interested in food writing, gardening, and history. These are my hobbies and I find it relaxing to come home from work and write about something besides business issues. In my "spare time, " I'm also shopping around a food memoir, based on my Armenian-American heritage, which is currently in rough draft form. |
