Judith J. Wurtman, Ph.D, is the co-author of "The Serotonin Power Diet" (Rodale Books, Jan 2007) with Nina Frusztajer Marquis, M.D. http://serotoninpowerdiet.com. She has directed research at the MIT Clinical Research Center on the relationship between serotonin, a brain chemical that regulates mood and appetite and obesity, PMS, Seasonal Affective Disorder and smoking withdrawal. While at MIT, she developed Serotrim, a natural carbohydrate drink that quickly raises the level of serotonin in the brain http://serotrim.com and found that the drink aided weight loss by decreasing the appetite and eliminating emotional overeating.
After developing and running a weight loss clinic associated with a Harvard University psychiatric hospital, Dr Wurtman developed a program specifically designed to help clients who had gained weight on antidepressants and related medications. Subsequently, Dr. Marquis and she opened Adara, a private weight loss practice that specializes in obesity caused by emotional overeating and/or antidepressants http://adaracenter.com. Both Drs. Wurtman and Marquis believe that brain power, not will power, is the key to controlling excess food intake and the mood changes that cause overeating. They are committed to helping people fight antidepressant weight gain and curb emotional overeating.
