Recent Blog PostWater Gardens and Water Conservation
Are water gardens and water conservation opposites? Do ponds waste water? Not necessarily. Look for current and upcoming articles on ways that pond and wetland gardens can save water.
Welcome to my home on Suite 101! I'm an avid gardener and environmental educator. I love connecting people to nature, whether that is in an urban garden, a stream, or a forest. I've published on environmental education and community-based environmental work, both informally through publications like Green Teacher and in academic journals. My work on getting children outdoors also appears in local parenting magazines such as West Coast Families and Urban Baby and Toddler. I volunteer for several local organizations that focus on sustainable living, including a wonderful gardening and food security organization called The Edible Garden Project.Through my consulting work, I create and lead workshops on connecting people to natural places. I enjoy food gardening and try to integrate the principles of permaculture into my small garden. I'm also passionate about ecological restoration of wetlands and riparian areas. My graduate studies focused on the restoration of streamside ecosystems in the Pacific Northwest and the Philippines. I also enjoy turning my house into a lovely home, with a focus on organizing, natural and nontoxic living, green building, and celebrating the seasons! In the summer of 2008, I ran my first marathon. I enjoy integrating exercise into my life, and I'm now working on my next goal - involving swimming, biking, and running! If you'd like to follow my writing, please register for the RSS feed: the box is located in the bottom right of the page. Articles are also available for reprint in off-line publications. Enjoy your stay here at Suite 101, and happy gardening! |
