Bio on Vance Chapman

Vance Chapman is a single father of an 11 year old autistic son. Professionally he is a writer based in Toronto. He is a member of the Toronto Film Critic's Association and he got his B.A. in English Literature at Hampton University in Virginia and studied filmmaking at the London International Film School in the UK and at Howard University in Washington D.C. before moving to Toronto in the mid 90's to work in the city's growing film industry. In 1996 while working for famed director Norman Jewison (In The Heat of the Night, A Soldier Story) Vance began to write film reviews for Word magazine and film scripts for himself. In 1997 he won the Praxis Screenwriting award in Vancouver and later that year Vanz was accepted as a writer in residence at the Canadian Film Centre. After finishing the writing program at the CFC Vance was hired as the senior story editor and staff writer on the CBC drama, Drop the Beat from 1999 - 2001. In 2002/03 Vanz had a film book entitled REEL BLAK published by Gutter Press and he developed, produced and was head writer on the sit com "Lord Have Mercy" which received a Gemini nomination as Best Comedy Series in Canada. In the spring of 2004 Urban Books, the Black/urban - themed lit imprint of Gutter Press published Vance's second book, ROAM for which GG Award winner, George Elliott Clarke wrote the foreword.

Vance is currently writing scripts for two series and devleoping a new one for the US TV market.
