I have Miss McGinn to thank for my becoming a writer. I was in her class for only two years from age nine to eleven. In what we called 'English lessons', she would sometimes call me to the front of the class and say "Now children, Catherine is going to read her essay to the class. Quiet please."

Miss McGinn inspired confidence in me and I felt free to express myself in my own way, without having to worry about what might be 'right' or 'wrong'. Nowadays, we call that 'writing from the heart' - the only way to go whether you are writing poetry, novels, and also travel articles. My book How to Write and Sell Travel Articles was first published by Allison & Busby in 1992 and is now in its third printing. It was twice on the best-selling travel books list in the UK national newspaper 'The Independent' and was also shown on the UK television program "Wish You Were Here". It has been described as ‘the perfect guide for those writers wanting to break into the travel writing market". It also is a good guide in general for beginning journalists. It has been revised and updated (January 2008). Read Review

I have been a travel writer/photographer since 1986 and during that time have written scores of articles on destinations in over twenty countries. I have written for major newspapers and magazines in the UK as well as in Canada, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. I have also written for numerous in-flight magazines around the world. During this time I was a finalist in the Canada Travel Awards for Best Consumer Travel Writer; Winner of British Guild of Travel Writers 'Best London Article' award, and was a finalist in the Naples Chamber of Commerce International Journalism Award.

I also have been a guest lecturer at many writers' groups and colleges and taught a journalism course for the Adult Education programmes in the Boroughs of Camden and Brent in North London.
