Eilene Toppin Ording

Contributing Writer

Eilene Toppin Ording comes from a wide industrial and educational background. A farmer's daughter from Minnesota, Eilene is an active person with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities.

After several years in the corporate world as a production supervisor in the soybean processing industry, Eilene retired to raise two children, now currently in their teens. With a mom who taught high school English and aunts, uncles and a sister working in education, Eilene is a natural at teaching, writing and research.

Eilene's most recent job has been a 13 year stint in the environmental compliance area. Researching legal and regulatory issues, filing reports to regulatory agencies and writing memos have kept her employed part time while raising the kids and helping in the community.

Among the many volunteer jobs Eilene has held are Cub Scout leader, children's choir director, and Sunday school teacher. Eilene is Woodbadge trained and is currently a Boy Scout leader. Eilene belongs to a church where she is currently on the Board of Trustees and on the marketing subcommittee of the evangelism committee. She has been president of a women's mission organization and volunteered at the food pantry.

Eilene's current passion is jewelry making. She recently learned to stitch beads into lovely items. She has way too many books, but keeps buying them anyway. Her most recent read was a historical fiction book by Georgette Heyer titled My Lord John about the brother of Henry V of England. She also enjoys music and can play (not necessarily well) three instruments. She is on a temporary sabatical from church choir due to the demands of having a daughter in the senior class.

In the future, Eilene would love to travel the world. Her favorite places to visit so far: Germany, Boston, Massachusetts, and Montreal. Not the kind to lie on a beach, Eilene prefers historical venues and horseback riding. Her wish list of new adventures: Ghent, Belgium, Ireland and China.
