Tricia Masenthin began her journalism career in 2005 as a student of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas. She edited copy at The University Daily Kansan and worked her way into a reporting internship at The (Tonganoxie) Mirror in 2006. That year, she earned the John Bremner Copy Editing Award, a bachelor’s degree with highest distinction from K.U. and a prestigious Dow Jones Newspaper Fund copy editing internship at The Kansas City Star. With a readership of nearly 1 million, The Kansas City Star provided a challenging, high-energy experience that allowed Tricia to thrive. At the conclusion of her internship, she accepted a reporting and copy editing position at The Lansing Current, where she wrote about education, government and community. At The Current, Tricia earned second-place honors in the 2007 Kansas Associated Press Awards of Excellence in the feature story and youth story categories. Tricia is a member of Kappa Tau Alpha National Honor Society and was the recipient of the 2006 Elmer F. Beth Chapter's Top Scholar Award. Tricia also has worked in public relations, marketing and fundraising. A writer and news junkie since childhood, she currently uses her wide array of skills as a freelance writer and stay-at-home parent. Tricia’s writing interests include adoption and parenting issues, education, entertainment and popular culture. In July 2009, Tricia earned Suite 101's Editor's Choice Award for her article Miss Spider's Adoption Stories. |
