Laura Thompson is a horseback riding instructor and freelance writer living in Houston, Texas. She is proud to be the feature writer for Horses here at Suite101.com, and you are more than welcome to contact her with questions or comments about horses, horseback riding, lessons, training, horse care, veterinary practices, boarding, and other equestrian topics if you don't find what you are looking for.

She first started teaching horseback riding lessons in 2001, working primarily with three-day eventers and reiners. In 2004, she began a freelance writing career, and has published hundreds of articles on horse training, horse care and competing.

She loves teaching others about horses, and hopes to one day own her own farm and training facility. She is a certified riding instructor with more than ten years of experience, and although a string of injuries keeps her from training and competing anymore, she finds she is more fulfilled by sharing her knowledge and skills with others.

Most of Laura's background is in three-day eventing, dressage and reining, though she has tried to acclimate herself to as many equestrian disciplines as possible. On occasion, she gives clinics to horseback riding instructors who are interested in perfecting their craft and workshops to equestrian professionals who want to expand their businesses.

Now she provides horse business consulting to riding instructors and other equestrian professionals, as well as a riding instruction blog.

Laura's writing has been featured prominently in numerous publications, including Horse & Rider magazine, On The Bit magazine and Texas Horseman.
