Lewis Mwanangombe is a veteran journalist working and living in the Southern African nation of Zambia, who has over the past 30 years written widely for publications in various corners of the World.
His favorite topics are politics and political processes and development initiatives involving the uplifting of living standards of the majority on the African continent. He also writes on subjects related to recreation – both sport and tourism, the economy including mining and stock news as well as agriculture and its significance to the poor in Africa when new scientific innovations are taken on board and related to the potential to raise incomes and provide more food for the starving millions who now go to bed hungry.
All this, thanks to the influences of the International Rotary Club for which he wrote extensively in his early years while he worked for the Government wire-service (Zambia News Agency) in the Zambian copper mining town of Chingola.
Lewis trained for journalism, creative writing and public administration both in his home country (at Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce and the University of Zambia, Lusaka); and abroad at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi and the London School of Journalism and City University of London, United Kingdom (Britain). From these institutions he not only learned how to write and publish (with his articles being used by Newspapers and Magazines in Europe, Africa, USA and Asia) but he also successfully converted to writing and editing for the Internet. He has also attended several workshops and conferences that hone skills of the On-line Journalist.
At the moment he writes for Associated Press (AP) and the Pan-African News Agency (PANAPRESS) from Zambia and contributes news items to Channel Africa of
the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
Before now he has worked as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Zambia News Agency (ZANA) and editor of the Online publication, Zambia-Today. He has also been part of the team of experts that formulated media legislation in his country including the law which is now governing the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation and the about to be introduced Freedom of Information law and the soon to be created, Independent Broadcasting Authority.
He has written extensively for Inter-Press Service (IPS) on politics, business, environment, the African child and gender as well as culture, leisure, sport and tourism. Consequently some of his articles from the IPS news-pool have been published in such non-English speaking countries as Finland where his articles were used by Demari, Keskisuomalainen and De Standaard newspapers.
Additionally he has also written for Africa Analysis that served the United Kingdom, Africa and the Middle East with news on politics, culture and business – including stock news and economic developments. Other publications of significance include Zero Magazine – an Environment publication for Southern Africa and he briefly wrote for Prensa Latina, the main wire-service of South America and the Caribbean nations.
