I have been a professional journalist for the past 20 years, the last 16 as a sports writer and columnist. My most recent job was as the sports columnist for The Sun News in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where I still reside but left the newspaper over concerns about the future of the industry for a new career as the director of communications for a sports marketing company. I love my new gig, but I miss writing, so I freelance for several publications, such as Weekly Surge, GS Magazine and my old newspaper. During my time at The Sun News, I won numerous state and national awards for feature, column and humor writing and overed everything from ACC and SEC sports, the NFL Carolina Panthers, the NBA Charlotte Bobcats, the PGA, LPGA and Legends golf tours and NASCAR. Although football, basketball and horse racing are my favorites, I have covered it all. My previous newspaper jobs were as the sports editor of the Franklin Review Appeal and Southern Standard in my native Tennessee. Although I love living at the beach, I miss the mountains and return as often as possible to camp, hike and fish. I also enjoy camping at the beach and go crabbing, shrimping and fishing as often as possible. I have a wife and daughter and our dream is to own a house at the beach and one in the mountains so we can go back and forth whenever we get bored. Of course, writing is my primary hobby and I hope my insights and experience will be of interest to you.
