My name is Sherrie Walker, and I live in Garland, TX (of "King of the Hill" fame.) Yes, we really talk like that. I have two grown daughters, and they are the joys of my life. I graduated from Baylor University with a B.A. in English and have worked as a proofreader, but I have spent most of my working years in the banking profession.
I love camping and hiking, but my greatest passion is for animals, especially dogs and cats. For years, I confined my animal-loving activities to taking in strays. Then I began volunteering at a no-kill shelter in Garland. I already knew that shelters of this type were usually full and had waiting lists, but I had no idea of the magnitude of the problem until I became more closely involved. I decided then to do whatever I could to help ease this tragic situation.
I connected to the Suite101.com site from www.HomeJobsPlus.com while I was surfing for work I could do from home, and I decided to combine my love for writing with my love for animals. That is why I chose "Homeless Pets" as my topic. I hope that, through my research and my writing, I can educate myself and others about the plight of neglected and abandoned animals and hopefully find some solutions.
