Susan Cramer - Profile

Susan Cramer Antiques & Collectibles, s cramer

As a girl, I spent many happy overnights with my cousin Carol who was an only child of well-to-do parents, and consequently owned lots of cool stuff. Long before I realized that it was bad manners to do so, I would paw through her jewelry box ogling her charm bracelet and add-a-bead necklace, or play with her complete set of original Seltaeb 1964 Beatles Figurines, which I'm sure she wishes she still had.

I still love stuff, and consider sifting through dusty boxes in estate sale basements as one of the highest forms of recreation. I started out with a couple of pieces of blue pottery, but antiques are like drugs-you start out small, then you need more and more, and before you know it, you're dealing to support your collecting habit! Today's collections include statue of liberty figurines, blue pottery (with subcategories consisting of plates and miniatures) buttons, World's Fair memorabilia, chrome and Bakelite bar and kitchenware, mesh and beaded purses, wood boxes, embroidery transfer patterns, and vintage print tablecloths.

My degree is in interior design, with additional courses in writing. I've run estates sales, tag sales and booths at antique shows. My work has appeared numerous times in Antique Week, including cover stories. When I'm not messing about with stuff, I enjoy reading, embroidery, kayaking, furniture refinishing, and OF COURSE attending estate sales, tag sales, antique shows & especially, garage sales, with my neighbor, Mrs. B.

I serve as President of the Board of Trustees of my beloved local Library where I am currently helping to oversee the construction of a $5 million addition. I'm also the the coach for our middle school Power of the Pen Writing Team, and find my students simultaneously irritating & loveable!
