Growing up in Darwin with excursions through bush to the beach, camping and canoeing trips created a love of the bush. They inspired me to do a Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Ecology/Natural Resources. Finishing my degree in Canberra led to a variety of projects with the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). They related to gathering and managing the information needed to manage parks. After that I honed my communication skills writing software user manuals and running training courses. Returning to Darwin I found myself tour guiding and becoming interested in history and Aboriginal cultures. Tour guiding and managing Bowali Visitor Centre in Kakadu National Park paved the way to the Parks and Wildlife Service of the Northern Territory (PWSNT). With PWSNT I visited parks to consult with traditional custodians and plan projects. Researching, writing and managing a variety of projects interpreting nature, culture and history for the public gave me great satisfaction. It also taught me much about Northern Territory parks and preparing signs, displays and other interpretive material. With PWSNT I also assessed tour guides and prepared tour guide handbooks for Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park and Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Park. Now I am self employed – editing, researching, writing and managing projects interpreting nature, culture and history. Visit my website. Latest Articles
