I'm a cell and molecular biologist, freelance writer and photographer currently living in Beijing, China. I'm fascinated by science, travel, technology, pets and health.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Cincinnati with a concentration in Cell and Molecular Biology and courses in everything from comparative anatomy to tropical ecology to human development.
I've been a freelancer since 1998. In my freelance writing career, I have written articles about science, health, pets, travel and many other topics.
Aside from freelance writing and photography, I've also worked in a vast array of jobs, mostly Biology-related. A small sampling of my bio-career includes stints working on gene therapy vectors, studying ion channels in the brain, developing mouse models of immune system functioning, creating diagnostics for cancer detection, volunteer work educating zoo patrons on the plight of endangered species and assisting at a local animal shelter. I've also served as a teaching assistant for an Anatomy and Physiology lab, conducted a stream survey of crustacean populations and hosted childrens' educational programs on the environment.
At home, I have raised pets of all forms and sizes, ranging from dogs and cats to snakes, sugar gliders, turtles, hermit crabs and fish.
My travels have taken me across the globe and I tend to be an avid traveler no matter where I'm living, always exploring, always adventuring.
I also write science fiction and fantasy short stories, a few of which have been published in small press venues. Many of my stories have a basis in the real biological science that I have come across in my reading, research and exploration.
