As a contributing writer for Suite101.com since 2005, it is a privilege to join Education & Career as feature writer for the topic of Day Care. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Family and Consumer science with an emphasis in Child Development. I also hold a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree, specializing in public librarianship and youth services. I believe early childhood education is critical to success later in life. The early years are the learning years. I am also a huge proponent of the benefits of learning through play. I am a strong supporter of early literacy. I believe that books set children's imaginations on fire, give children wings, and enhance their lives in incalculable ways. When I was a child, one of my most valuable possessions was my library card. My mother would take me to the library every week, and I was ecstatic and amazed that I had access to any book I desired. I would take home stacks of books and dig in! I loved to read, escape, dream, and reflect, and books allowed me to do these things. Today, children's literature continues to be a great passion of mine. I have always loved the classics! My favorite authors: Ezra Jack Keats, Arnold Lobel, Shel Silverstein, Judy Blume, Roald Dahl, and Russell Hoban. My hobbies include reading, of course! I also love writing, scrapbooking, traveling, cooking, jazz, and reality television. I am also a "foodie" and have recently become a wine enthusiast. I believe that the Internet is an invaluable tool. To be able to share my knowledge and insight in any way I can with people all over the world is a gift and one that I a feel blessed to be able to share with Suite101.com members. |
