My soap background: I'm in my twenties, but have been watching soaps since I was hospitalized at the age of two (the nurses wanted to watch). My first soap was As the World Turns. However, any soap that has been on the air since 1980 I have seen at least one episode of if not more, including now defunct soaps like Another World, The Doctors, Search for Tomorrow, Generations, Loving, The City, Santa Barbara, and old favorite Ryan's Hope. Currently I watch all the soaps on the air. The NBC soaps I admit I watch the least. I don't like Passions very much and I stopped watching Days in 1999, disgusted with how the show was developing. But for this job, I would again watch the show and I would watch Passions again on a regular basis. As the World Turns has always been the show I follow the most, but I can be quite critical of it when necessary (aren't we always critical of the people and things we love the most?). My education: In 1997 I was in the process of receiving my degree in Child Development (Of course, I graduated high school first), when my congenital heart problem railroaded it. I had nearly completed all of my courses. I currently do not have any other job because I can not exert too much physical energy. My writing background: I've been an amateur writer since I was ten. I once submitted a book for a writing contest and was one of the blue ribbon winners. For that my book was put in the children's section of our city library. In high school I wrote for the school paper and in my spare time I write short stories, short films, feature length film screenplays, and soap fan fiction. My vision for the column: I have no intention to change the column. What I loved about it was that P.K. could say whatever he wanted about any soap. He didn't hold anything back, he wouldn't be fearful of what the legions of fans or critics would say he would just plunge right in. This is what I hope to maintain. I have always wanted a chance to speak my mind in a column. There are many things that I have always wanted to say that you can't say on a message board because people will just fire back and flame you for your thoughts and you get sidetracked fighting with specific people. This gives me the opportunity to have a voice and a choice as to which emails I will give any credence to. |
