I graduated from Hastings College in 2006 with high honors and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, emphases in Writing and Literature. I was on the Deans List my entire college career and was the recipient of the Stephen Lingwall Senior English Award, an award that chooses the best. While in college, I was always figuring out different ways to work the things I loved into my craft. These things included writing, literature and film. Film studies were my forte and gradually, I was able to convince professors that it was something that should be explored, especially when coupled with literature. While in school, I was given the opportunity to present one of these papers, the subject being on Religion in Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo & Juliet", in a campus-wide presentation. Besides "Romeo & Juliet," I have done film studies on such films as Stanley Kubrick's "Lolita" (1962), "Apocalypse Now," "Great Expectations," and "Emma." Film studies is indeed one of my great passions and something I intend to continue pursuing. I was the editor of the college's literary/art magazine and was published in the magazine all four years I attended school. In 2005, one of my essays was selected and published by Elder & Leemaur Publishers for their "Authors of Tomorrow" contest. Those who were published in the contest represented the top five percent in the nation. I've worked with an Academic Publishing Company -- doing copyediting, coding and getting to know all the aspects and departments behind publishing. I've only recently started my current job as a freelance writer, but am loving it so far. I am also working with Associated Content (http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/247029/sarah_f_sullivan.html) and am loving the variety of subjects I can write about. However, just to be able to write and be accessible to everyone is a pleasure. |
