Ruth Arundell

Contributing Writer

Ruth is a British writer, teacher and campaigner who moved to Barcelona, Spain in 2006. She began writing as a child and during the 1980s published a number of articles in national and regional magazines including The Lady, 19 and Sussex Life before being seriously distracted by higher education, politics and a teaching career.

She was also involved in the national campaign Defend Council Housing and led a successful campaign to retain and improve public housing in her hometown of Brighton, with the result that for six years her major writing output was distributed by hand and subsequently trampled underfoot at party political and trades union conferences.

Since moving to Barcelona she has relaunched herself as a writer and translator (Spanish to English), producing online writing in the form of a personal blog as well as articles for Suite 101. Her interests include politics, philosophy and literature, wildlife and the outdoors and Spain and all things Spanish. Her recent adventures include a month long motorcycle camping tour of Spain and Portugal, and battling Spanish bureaucracy armed with nothing but a sense of humour and a thick book.
