Rod Young

Writer
me, R. Young

Rod has been a writer since he discovered the ability to string together a couple words into a legible utterance. His early attempts at the craft were limited to a few screenplays directed at his favorite entertainment conglomerate: The Mickey Mouse Club. After several no replies, he opted to focus his talents on elementary school. Following an academically unremarkable high school career, Rod entered through the gates of higher education. The stint lasted for a couple of years before his restless spirit took hold and led him on a trek across America where he found his calling as a short order cook at a Waffle House outside Atlanta. Under the guided tutelage of Red, a cook of legendary proportions, Rod quickly gained a command of the grill that would service him well in life.

After traveling to all four corners of the country, Rod settled on the Midwest. Here he would toil further in the restaurant industry until a visit to the emergency room would inform him that he had a broken back. Following a successful surgery, he would hone his focus and return to college. Through an internship with a government agency, he would further his skills at writing in the Office of Communications. Once again, Rod would spend a few successful and fruitful years at a small midwestern Liberal Arts college and leave a few credits shy of a degree.

Returning to his primary occupation, only this time as a restaurant manager, he would spend the next five years in the trenches. After relocating and finding himself again even more deeply ensconced in the restaurant industry, Rod soon felt that familiar urge to return to the ivory towers. This time, after twenty years, the thing stuck and he successfully matriculated with a degree in technical writing.

Rod now lives in Michigan with his wife and two young sons. He aspires towards a freelance writing career with an eye on web development through CMS. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the guitar and perfecting his cross-court backhand.
