Rich Stowell is currently serving a deployment with the California National Guard in Kosovo, where he works as a Public Affairs Specialist for Multi-National Task Force East, under NATO command. He is the Broadcast Section Chief for MNTF-E and contributes regularly to the Task Force magazine, The Guardian East.
He writes about his experiences in the Army on his military blog, “My Public Affairs,” and is currently finishing up his book, Nine Weeks, about his unique experience at Army Basic Training.
Before deploying, he taught educational technology at the University of San Francisco, and worked as a math coach to dozens of teachers across the state of California.
Previously, he was a founding math instructor at two charter schools in the San Francisco Bay Area.His duties at the various schools included Parent Liaison, Bilingual and Special Education Instructional Assistant, athletic coach, after-school programs coordinator, Yearbook Advisor, and Trustee.
Rich earned his Masters degree in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University, where he specialized in standards-based instruction.
He is also a Featured Writer for ChronWatch, a political and media blog.
His wife, Esther, and their son, Joseph Aniefiok, eagerly await his return from the Balkans.
