John Bowman is an award-winning freelance writer and retired newspaper editor in both news and sports. He writes about all areas of sports, including professional, college and amateur football, basketball, baseball, golf and softball, as well as feature and news stories.

Bowman has written for the St. Petersburg Times, Tampa Tribune, Orlando Sentinel, Florida (formerly Cocoa) TODAY, Fort Myers News-Press, Atlanta Constitution, Albany (GA) Herald, Tifton (GA) Gazette, Leesburg (FL) Daily Commercial, Ocala Star-Banner and his hometown Citrus County Chronicle.

He has won numerous first-place awards for sports, news and feature writing, columns, editorials and opinion for organizations where he has been a member and for newspaper chains in which he has worked, including Landmark Communications, Gannett, Perry Publications, and others.

While working at several Georgia newspapers in the early 1970s, Bowman founded the Georgia Sportswriters Association, along with former Atlanta Braves publicist Bob Hope, and served as the association's first president.

He has interviewed literally thousands of professional, college and amateur high-profile personality, as well as a number of celebrities, including Elvis Pressley. He played golf with Ted Williams and Freddie Lindstrom, both Hall of Fame baseball players. While in high school, he was a four-time winner of the Dazzy Vance award, named for the Hall of Fame pitcher. He considers himself fortunate to be on a first-name basis with a number of former and current professional athletes.
