Michael Pantazi is just another aspiring writer with delusions of artistic ability. He is almost entirely self-educated and living in England has made him extremely cynical. His primary interests lie with an eclectic mix of literature, including historical fiction, philosophy, the natural world, and world history (especially ancient). He would consider astronomy to be the most worthy and rewarding subject matter, except for all the scientists involved. Instead, the study of history is his favoured subject (with mythologies of the world a close second). Michael's favourite historical writers include Herodotus, Plato, Robert Burton, Charles Darwin, and many, many more, with a special place on his bookshelf for Edgar Allan Poe, who he holds to be an unmitigated genius of the likes that most physicists can only dream of being. Despite his love of literature, he acknowledges that films and tv are leading contributors to popular culture (for better or worse, but mostly worse) and is eager to do something productive with his many years of accumulated information on the big and small screen. As a stout believer in the Laws of Natural Selection, Michael's purpose here on Suite101 is to identify those cultural influences that are unworthy of human attention (what he likes to call 'mental or spiritual pollutants') and which should therefore be publicly humiliated and severely chastized. Alternatively he will be looking to give fair recognition and respect to those works, which deserve to survive the melting-pot that is modern culture, to be inherited by future generations. |
