Organic Gardening has long been an interest of mine. I was writing letters about the environment to my Congressman when I was in 8th grade! My property has been certified as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. Many people have commented on the number of butterflies and lightening bugs in my yard. I explain that insecticide does away with all insects, including the more desirable ones.

I am editor of The Garden Dirt, my local Garden Club's monthly newsletter since December of 1998. The subject of Organic gardening appears frequently in "My Garden Gate", a column I write for every issue.

I am certified by National Garden Club as a Standard Flower Show Judge. This means I am qualified to judge Standard Flower Shows all over the United States, Canada, Central America and South America.

I recently completed training as a Master Gardener. Photography is another passion. My photographs have won awards at the local County Fair and at the 2006 Chicago Flower and Garden Show. I've had exhibits in the McHenry County Conservation District as well as our local Arts Foundation gallery.
