Mark Fontes joined the news team at WZBN in March, 2008. He has covered stories ranging from New Jersey's crackdown on gang members to the suicide of longtime suspected anthrax mailer, Bruce Ivins. "It's SO great to be back in the Northeast!" Mark says. "I went to school in New York, and ever since leaving the Tri State Area, I have wanted to come back. It's a good fit." His move to the Garden State followed a more than four year stint in California, where Mark was the news anchor at high definition cable network WealthTV. Before that, he reported for KTRV in Boise, Idaho. There, former Governor Dirk Kempthorne's press secretary Mark Snyder once described Fontes as "the hardest working man in television." Fontes' experience with the spud state began after graduating with honors from St. John's University (NY) in May, 2002. Here at Suite 101, Mark covers several sports, but none more greatly than the WNBA. He has traveled the country covering regular and postseason action, interviewing all the league's greats along the way...Lisa Leslie, Lauren Jackson, Diana Taurasi and many, many more. Mark has also contributed articles on softer material like speed dating and newly-opened sushi bars. Prior to Suite 101, Mark's stories appeared on websites such as ElevationMag.com. There he covered WNBA and NCAA games, as well as the now famous incident between shock jock Don Imus and the Rutgers womens' basketball team. Mark's start in online journalism arrived in early 2006 via NWBL.com, the website of the now defunct National Women's Basketball League. Mark lives in Mercer County, NJ and enjoys biking, swimming, bowling, traveling, and 80's music (Human League is his favorite). He also enjoys working with animals and underprivileged people when possible. |
