Melissa is a life-long writer. She started her freelance writing career in the 8th grade when the editor of her small town’s newspaper asked if she would contribute a weekly column. This column was published weekly until Melissa graduated from high school and moved from small town life to big city college girl.
In college, Melissa continued her love for writing and started a dormitory newspaper. The newspaper provided over 500 residents with entertainment, news, and college-specific topics on a weekly basis. Melissa served as an editor, contributor and advertising manager.
Melissa is the Feature Writer for the Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome topic at Suite 101. Melissa brings to the table several years of experience with both autism and Asperger’s Syndrome as both a parent and a volunteer.
Melissa has two children, both of whom have varying special needs. Whether it is dealing with anxiety and Asperger’s Syndrome in one child or autism and asthma in the other, Melissa is always knee-deep in research on parenting special needs children.
Melissa’s other writing passion is the environment. She is the primary contributor at The Green Motorist, a featured blogger at the Mother Nature Network focusing on eco-business topics and the owner of Raising Them Green. Melissa also works on several projects for Two Gun Media and manages a website dedicated to providing comprehensive information on autism education, The Autism Education Site.
