With a health care career that extends back 19 years I have had the fortunate opportunity to work with patients across a span of ages from the neonate to the elderly. I have worked as an Emergency Medical Technician, a Paramedic, and a Registered Nurse. I am currently working as a Flight Nurse for Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. My certifications and licensures are as an RN, EMT-P, PHRN, CEN, and CFRN with subsequent age related certifications. My skills extend graciously into the critical care environemnt. I have worked with ventilators, Ventricular Assist Devices, Aortic Balloon Pumps, advanced cardiac monitoring, intravenous therapy, OB/GYN, pediatric critical care, pharmacological therapy, stroke care and the list goes on. In my industry we call ourselves the "Jack of all Trades"; we do it all. We must also be prepared to do it all at a moments notice. With a strong background in emergency medicine the need to improve assessment skills and provide higher quality care emerged rapidly. A terrific way to enhance my current understanding of patient care was to read and write this information in such a fashion that the layperson would be able to comprehend it. Understanding the basics, planted the foundation for the technical understanding when it came to communicating with my peers and educating my patients. My first priority is caring for my patients and ensuring that they receive a standard of care that is both a combination of my own practice and that which has been instilled by my mentors. Nursing assembles itself within the health care community as educators, care givers, and advocates. These roles are paramount in sustaining the image of nursing in the community and empowering the sufferers of medical conditions. My writings can be found in Chicago Health and Wellness, JeffSTAT Journal (an organizational publication for Thomas Jefferson University Hospital) as well as on my blog at NurseConnector.com. My writings are designed to help people understand "Why and How" certain things occur as well as provide guidance to empower their own health. Additional websites I write on: A very important concept is that this information is for knowledge only and is in no way a substitution for physician advice. Always consult your treating practitioner for more accurate guidance. Latest Articles
