Michael Kopanic

Dr. Michael J. Kopanic, Jr. is an historian specializing in European and U.S. Immigration history. He has published extensively in his field of expertise, including his service as one of the editors and translators of Anton Spiesz's Illustrated Slovak History.

He has a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.A. from the University of Notre Dame, and a B.A. from Youngstown State University. He has also studied at the University of Toronto, Canada, and Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia.

In addition to working for the University of Maryland University College, Dr. Kopanic has taught European, American, and World history at Corinthian Colleges, Saint Francis University of Pennsylvania, Westminster College of Pa., Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania State University at Altoona, Mount Aloysius College, Cambria County Community College, Teikyo Westmar University, Lock Haven University of Pa., the University of Akron, and Culver Military Academy.

Since 1995, he also served as a Faculty Consultant for Educational Testing Service and the College Board, and has presented numerous lectures as a Commonwealth Speaker for the Pennsylvania Humanities Council. He writes a regular column, "Views from the Alleghenies," for the Slovak-American fraternal bi-weekly newspaper, Jednota.

He frequently travels to Europe and is an avid lover of folk music.
