Michelle Hogan - Profile

Hello! My name is Michelle Kennedy Hogan and I am 26 years old and have 4 children. Yes, that's right, 4! After studying economics and politics at American University, I began my career by freelance writing on a variety of topics, mostly family oriented. Aside from studying economics, my expertise in finance came from a massive debt load that I accrued during my college years. I began to learn more about the finance industry, which lead to sharing my findings in a successful newsletter and website that I publish called "The Money Maven". What I found, through my own investing ignorance, was that many of my friends were also very uninformed about what the stock market does and what it can do for them. Many women, I found, thought that all of the investment information out there was too dry to warrant spending any time reading. Further, many thought that if you didn't have a huge amount of cash and access to a broker, there was no point. After much research, I discovered that none of this was true. While a lot of the investment advice out there is dry, it is far from being a boring subject, and another fact is that you do not need a lot of cash to start an investment portfolio. These and other myths are what I have set out to demystify by helping women get in touch with the tools they need to build a substantial portfolio.

Aside from investing and writing, my hobbies include leading scout troops and coaching sports teams, playing with my kids, baking, playing the piano, and reading.

Besides my own website, my other favorite sites include The Motley Fool, the Dollar Stretcher, MSNBC, Salon Magazine and Suite 101!
