Michael Carroll

Writer
Michael Carroll, Michael Carroll

Michael Carroll is a freelance writer with a particular interest in all things Spanish. He is knowledgeable about maritime history and literature, and loves anything to do with food and drink, from production to digestion with a special fondness for consumption.

Michael is now settled in Coin, Andalucia, where he enjoys small town life in Spain to the full. Originating in the North of England Michael travelled the world as a seaman in the days when ships spent time in port. He followed this with a B.Sc. in Behavioural Science, at Huddersfield Polythechnic, which led to twenty, not entirely miserable, years on the fringes of social work.

He was pleasantly surprised during his time as a mature student to discover that he could write.

The universities of Leeds and Hull furnished him with credits towards a B.A. in journalism and maritime history respectively.

Michael has written freelance copy for a variety of magazines, including Sea Breezes and Bowlers World. He derived a great deal of satisfaction when he worked as a district correpondent for the Halifax Courier. He says that covering local events organised by social clubs, churches and charities acted as a great restorative to his faith in human nature.

Since relocating to Spain Michael concentrated on acquiring the basics of the language but is now ready to start writing again, a process already begun with several of his articles published in Town Crier, an English language weekly serving the Malaga province.
