Merinda Wilson

Contributing Writer

Merinda Wilson spent her childhood climbing, playing and rummaging through the Australian bush north of Sydney, and it was here that she gained her love of the outdoors and sense of adventure. After stints living in Sydney and traveling along the east coast with her partner, fortune struck in Melbourne in 2003 (in the form of a broken kombi van) and she’s called the city home ever since.

Merinda spent many family holidays in the US, playing in snow at Yosemite and marveling at the bright lights of Vegas, and since these early experiences she has been obsessed with travel. Over the past few years she has traveled extensively through South-East Asia, Europe, South America, New Zealand and the US and this has only increased her desire to see as much as she can.

Her passion is New Zealand, and with lots of family and friends living over there she always finds an excuse to go back for a visit. In addition to tearing up the South Island, last year she also spent a month cycling through northern Europe, falling in love with Sweden in the process, and this year spent two blissful weeks skiing with family in Colorado and exploring the streets and forests of northern California.

After completing a course in travel writing and photography Merinda has published articles in Coast & Country magazine and online for the BBC, and wants to continue writing and publishing both online and in print.

Whether at home or abroad Merinda tries to see the beauty in everything, and this is what she would like to communicate through her writing. She looks forward to sharing her knowledge and passion with Suite 101 readers, and hopes that she can help you discover many beautiful places in the years to come.
