Melissa is a physician assistant in endocrinology with a further specialization in thyroid and parathyroid disorders. She is also a licensed clinical pharmacist, having worked in the area of oncology pharmacy. Her educational background includes a B.S. in Molecular and Microbiology from the University of Central Florida, as well as Masters in Physician Assistant Studies and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Florida.

Prior to entering the medical field, Melissa worked as a microbiologist and environmental chemist. Her background includes isolation of microorganisms and fermentation for drug discovery research. Melissa's chemistry background includes water, soil and plant tissue analysis.

She also spent two years as an assistant editor for a pharmaceutical information publication as well as writing continuing education materials for healthcare providers. She currently enjoys an adjunct faculty position at a local school of pharmacy in the PharmD program.

Melissa is an avid runner who has completed several half marathons, one full marathon, and numerous shorter distance races. She won her class in her first duathlon last year. Melissa is currently training for the Goofy Challenge at Walt Disney World, a race combining a half marathon on one day with a full marathon the next day. She is also a coordinating member of the WISH Racing Team, a group of athletes dedicated to helping others achieve their fitness goals. Her long-term goal is to complete a race in all 50 states.
