Suite101

I couldn't help myself. When I first heard about Suite 101 I thought, "I have to do something about Sting!"

You'll read a lot more about how Sting unknowingly entered and entrenched himself in my life in my first article. But for a little background, I first listened to The Police around 1980-81 as a pre-teen. I had been previously far more interested in Shaun Cassidy, Andy Gibb, and Rick Springfield. Terribly cliche, I know, but these guys appealed to my girlish sensiblilities. They quickly faded into the background as the music, the lyrics, and the energy of The Police took me to another place and time. Like an addict, I couldn't get through one single day without listening to The Police.

Since then, I have occasionally slid out of Police/Sting mania only to be revisited by it when I least expect it. Little did I know that I would be as enthralled as a 30-something mother and wife as I was as a teenager. But Sting has that affect on lots of people. Perhaps you're one of them.

Over the years, I've had some interesting opportunities to pursue a career in journalism. One of those opportunities was my brief internship at PolyGram Records. I was able to catch glimpses of some well known bands such as Tears For Fears and some not-as-well-known bands such as Hothouse Flowers, Michelle Shocked, and House of Love. I attended a PolyGram party at The Red Zone in Manhattan and was pleased to meet a gentleman from IRS Records who had glowing things to say about Miles Copeland, Stewart Copeland's brother and manager to both The Police and Sting. PolyGram purchased A&M Records (The Police's and Sting's record label) and a host of other record labels just as my internship ended. It was a great experience, and I'm indebted to Tim Hyde, for his hip but professional mentoring. I hated reaching the conclusion, though, that I was not made for the music business. My destiny was in far more solitary pursuits, and I now work on books as an editorial freelancer in my home in eastern Pennsylvania.

I have many and varied interests, from gardening, quilting and making handcrafts, to reading and writing (primarily about Native Americans), to attending concerts and traveling. My current pursuits include archery and learning stonemasonry. (Few subjects go unexplored!)

I discovered Suite 101 indirectly through my favorite web site: http://www.parentsplace.com. Through a writer's bulletin board at the ParentsPlace site, a group of writers formed an E-mail critique list, where we give advice about each other's writings. Mary, a very gifted writer and member of our crit group, added Bruce Springsteen to the list of subjects offered by Suite 101.

I don't pretend to be THE authority on Sting. I doubt I ever will be. Neither will I be THE authority on Internet searches or surfing. But I am 100% fan and would be delighted to share what I do know. I'm open to suggestions, links, and any other tips readers want to share. This isn't just *my* page, it's every Sting fan's page!

Welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay, and do visit again.
