I lead a busy but boring life. I'm a wife, mom, substitute teacher, community volunteer and writer.

When I earned a BS in Public Administration from Northern Michigan University in 1989, I steadfastly objected to suggestions that I also pursue an education major. "I'm not going to teach any @#$% kids!" In January 2000, I'll begin working towards my teaching certification--every job I've had til now has led me to this choice. Working with kids is what I do best, and what I enjoy the most.

I guest teach in an urban school district, and do so on a nearly full-time basis. I spend time nightly searching for lesson plans that require little planning and money, creating "kits" I can use as I find gaps in lesson plans... or when I walk into a classroom which has no lesson plan! I also get ideas from a couple of listserves to which I subscribe. Assignments in our district can last anywhere from 1/2 day to 90 days. I have to be prepared for anything--or nothing. After plenty of trial and error, and many, many hours on the Web, I've found a wealth of ideas that really do work.
