Ethel Matshiya

Ethel Matshiya was born and raised in Zimbabwe. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and sociology and a master’s degree in liberal arts from Tulane University, New Orleans. Her coursework has led her to work on a range of social issues including race and class intersection, teenage drug rings, justice, law and public policy and ethics in business.

She has worked for WGNO ABC26NEWS, the Tribune affiliate in New Orleans, as a news intern. Her experience includes working as a field producer for current U.S. Senator David Vitter’s 2004 election. Ethel also interviewed then U.S. Congressman and current Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, during a U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee hearing set to press congress for Louisiana to receive an equitable share of offshore drilling revenues.

Ethel worked as a volunteer for the Miss Zimbabwe Trust, the sole organizer of the Miss Zimbabwe Beauty Pageant and for WRBH reading radio for the blind and print handicapped. She is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).
