Marie Miley-Russell
Contributing Writer
Marie Miley-Russell is an experienced American Singer canary breeder and exhibitor who has travelled throughout the United States to compete in contests. She is active in bird related organizations on both state and national levels. She presently holds offices in several American Singer canary-related hobby clubs.
Since becoming active in the American Singer fancy, Marie has focused on providing high quality educational information to fanciers of all experience levels about canary care, breeding, and exhibition.
In 2005 she published The Practical Canary Handbook- a Guide to Breeding and Keeping Canaries and is currently working on a second book which will be focused specifically on American Singer canaries.
An avid reader and fan of Science Fiction and Fantasy, she enjoys sharing information about great books and authors with others.
Marie has researched her family history for 10+ years and travelled throughout the Eastern United States and Eastern Canada on research trips. Through this fascinating hobby, Marie has learned about conducting research on the internet (and its many pitfalls); DNA and human migration patterns; become familiar with the Mennonite faith, history and customs; studied the migration of French-speaking people into and throughout North America; learned a considerable amount about American history as relates to ordinary, average folks and their daily lives; how to stack precarious piles of research paperwork and locate a particular piece of paper in a group of thousands of pages (genealogists will understand that reference!); and much, much more than she dreamed of when she first took notes about her great grandparents at her grandmother's knee at the age of 10 years.
Marie has degrees in Liberal Arts, Gerontology, and Clinical/Community Psychology.
