Kate Pullen is a freelance writer with wide ranging interests. Before building her career as a writer, Kate was the managing director of a data processing company, building it from a small start-up to a market leading, successful business. Following the cataclysmic collision of a 40th birthday, marriage and yearning for a lifestyle change, Kate and her husband left the world of commerce to lead the 'good life. This allows Kate to write extensively about her passions, as well as sharing her valuable and unusual business experiences and tips for success.
Audiobooks
Kate's passion for books and reading started during her school days where she became an almost permanent fixture in the school library.
Kate found that when life got in the way of reading books then audiobooks presented the ideal solution. Kate would listen to the latest bestseller (or more likely a classic whodunnit) while commuting to work and in any other spare minutes she could muster. Several years ago, Kate and her husband threw out their television set and made audiobooks their evening entertainment of choice.
Book clubs are another of Kate's interests and she has been an active member of a number of clubs and enjoys sharing her thoughts about a book with others. Kate particulary enjoys the fact that a number of people can read or listen to a book and yet still create their own unique images as to characters and settings.
Audiobooks and other new generation formats open up access to books to a whole new range of readers. These are exciting times within the world of audiobooks and Kate is delighted to be writing about them for Suite101.com.
Arts and Crafts
Listening to audiobooks fits in wonderfully with Kate's other passion which is crafts. Kate is an accomplished craftsperson and as well as being a designer / maker, she has also writes both online and for print publication on a variety of crafts. Her first book, Knitting and Crochet Wire Jewelry, was published in early 2007. Kate's work can be seen on her website katepullen.com. The connections between the senses when crafting is very strong and when looking at a piece of her work Kate can often conjur up the book she was listening to, recalling twists and turns in the plot or the sound of the narrator's voice.
With 7 dogs, 7 cats and a long suffering husband, Kate lives in the heartland of Spain and is desperately trying to become fluent in Spanish. She runs a website and message board about the area - InExtremadura.com.
Kate writes the Rubber Stamping site at About.com.
