Maire Loughran was born and raised in Rhode Island, the jewelry capital of the world. She learned the art of jewelry making at the foot of her grandfather, a master jeweler and honed her appreciation of the importance of combining color, texture and shape from her grandmother who was a fabric designer.
She is a university professor, jewelry designer and a fashion journalist. While she attends numerous fashion, art and craft shows each year to stay current with contemporary jewelry trends her particular area of interest lies in historic, ritual and ethnic jewelry traditions.
In addition, Maire is the owner of Natural Magic, a mind, body and spirit shop specializing in organic and eco-friendly products. Following her practical side, Maire also maintains a current license as a certified public accountant.
Her latest book, How to Start a Home-Based Jewelry Making Business, will be available in June 2009.
Her next book, Auditing for Dummies, will be available in September 2010.
