I enjoy reading and writing about adventurous, creative people. For 15 years I taught English to high school students, mostly in alternative schools. I also taught several adult classes in Autobiography and Memoir Writing. In recent years, I have worked primarily as a freelance writer. My articles, book reviews and poems have appeared in many magazines and anthologies, including Bloomsbury Review, Initiative Quarterly, Lake Country Journal, Midwest Quarterly, Organic Gardening, Prose Poem, Southern Humanities Review and 33 Minnesota Poets. Several contemporary composers have set my words to music. Seafarer Press, earthsongs, Pilgrim Press, Boosey & Hawkes and Hummingbird Press have published some of these works, which have been performed by the Dale Warland Singers, Sherman Chamber Ensemble, Sapphire Chamber Consort and the Cornell University Chorus, among others. My work can be found on several CDs, including Finally On My Way To Yes by Elizabeth Alexander and Minnesota Boys Choir: Forty and Fine. I am a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. I have a B.A. in English from Carleton College, an M.A. in Theology and the Arts from United Theological Seminary and an M.F.A. in Poetry from Goddard College. To read some of my book reviews, go to booksiloved.com. You can hear one of my poems set to music (and see a painting inspired by the poem) at Seafarer Press. |
